Hobart’s varsity 8 earns weekly accolade

April 10, 2006

Liberty League Rowing

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College varsity eight was named the Liberty League Men’s Crew Boat of the Week this afternoon for the second straight week.

Over the weekend, the Statesmen turned in a third place showing out of 17 boats—14 of which were Division I teams—in the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J. One week removed from a nine-second defeat at the hands of Marist, Hobart finished just 1.1 seconds behind the Red Foxes to take second in their preliminary heat. In the grand final, senior Dan Gilbert (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), sophomore Alex Tye (Kent School/New Canaan, Conn.), senior Gardner Loring (Middlesex School/Duxbury, Mass.), classmate JM Chadonic (The Lawrenceville School/New York, N.Y.), junior Sep Levatich (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), classmate Mike Grenier (Brooks School/Methuen, Mass.), senior Tim Faxon (Salisbury School/Pelham, N.Y.), sophomore Richard Klein (Staples/Westport, Conn.), and classmate Drew Meunier (Shenendehowa/Round Lake, N.Y.) sped across the finish line ahead of Marist, Lehigh, and Delaware in 6:09.3, trailing only Temple and Holy Cross.

Hobart is back on the water on April 15, when the Statesmen host Colgate and RIT on the Seneca-Cayuga Canal.
